Herbal tea is a generic term for a beverage that uses other plant material to produce a tea other than the tea leaf, more commonly known as Camellia sinensis. Therefore, the short answer is yes. ORAC teas are technically classified as an herbal tea because it is made with the fruit produced by the coffee plant.
Herbal teas are often used as a way to enjoy a beverage that has antioxidants, but to avoid caffeine. However, in this case, it is not caffeine free.
Being that this tea is made out of cascara, the skin of the coffee cherry, it does have a low amount of caffeine— about a quarter amount of that which you would find in a regular cup of coffee. So, it is perfect for those who may have more sensitivity to the effects of caffeine. If you don’t mind a bit of energy that comes packed with natural nutrients, than these teas are just what the doctor ordered.
If when you reach for something herbal you are often looking for something that is decaffeinated, know that ORAC beverages are often going to give you a bit of an energizing boost with more of a gradual release from your system versus a crash.
ORAC Beverages’ ready-to-drink teas are herbal but do have a low amount of caffeine.
