Mindfulness…
Being in the moment
Being in the moment
We all want to be more mindful; more present in our current setting and situation. But with so many distractions, being mindful is incredibly difficult. Add in all the shopping, planning, and preparing for the holidays, and mindfulness is even more difficult to achieve.
Fortunately, there are ways to increase mindfulness and achieve a healthier lifestyle!
Mindfulness is simply the act of being in the moment and paying attention to the what’s happening right here, right now. It seems easy, but our minds tend to wander away from where we are to what might happen, what is happening somewhere else, or what we need to do in the future.
Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present, placing attention on where you are and what you are doing, but it’s not something that comes naturally to most people. Instead, you have to train your mind to practice mindfulness at all times.
To achieve mindfulness, many people practice meditation. This can be done through seated, standing, or even walking meditation. Short pauses of meditation can lead to better attention, according to a study published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.
Other ways to increase mindfulness include reducing the amount of screens in your life, avoiding multitasking (and instead focus on one thing at a time), and getting up to move your body at frequent intervals.
The holidays are celebrated as a time for joyous celebration and loving families. It’s a time we should all enjoy, but we frequently get caught up in scheduling trips, buying the perfect gift, and making sure each party is flawless. This leads to distraction and stress, causing many people to be physically present but mentally absent during the holidays.
To increase mindfulness during the holidays, use the same techniques we described above, but also remember that there is no such thing as a perfect holiday season. The food may not be flawless, the presents might not be the most memorable, and the parties may not be impeccable. What matters is that you spend quality time with your family.
We all know that diet impacts us physically, but it also has a powerful impact on our mental health. According to RecipeGeek, you can increase mindfulness by changing your diet and adding healthy foods. They recommend whole grains, lemon water, and whole fruits and vegetables to give your mind a healthy dose of energy. They also say that nuts and seeds are a rich source of magnesium, which is essential for combatting anxiety, sleep disruptions, and other health issues.
With the right approach to your lifestyle and diet, you can be more mindful at all times!
