Recycling is one of the most important, and, quite frankly, easiest things you can do to help the local and global environment. There are plenty of reasons to recycle, but it often comes down to two essential factors: reducing the raw materials we use, and lowering the pressure on our landfills.
Here’s Why Recycling Matters
1. Reduce Material Use
Recycling ensures that fewer materials need to be extracted from the natural environment. For every scrap of paper you recycle, a little less paper is required from trees; it might not seem like much, but when millions of tons of paper are recycled, it can mean millions of trees are not harvested. The same goes for plastic, which requires various materials including coal, petroleum, and other chemicals, as well as glass and aluminum.
2. Reduce the Strain on Landfills
The other basic reason to recycle is to reduce the strain on our landfills. Our landfills can only take so much trash, but if we all make efforts to reduce the amount we place in the refuse bin, either through reusing, recycling, or avoiding unnecessary items like grocery bags, we can do a lot to reduce the waste in our landfills.
At ORAC Tea, we encourage you to recycle everything possible, including our aluminum cans. We love the beauty of nature and the environment, so do your part and recycle all paper, plastics, glass, and our aluminum cans.
